International fake news is just as bad as United States fake news, and you can also notice when it is fake.
A few examples are checking the url, who published the article, and see if there are any contact information or real addresses. Although most people in America don’t really know what is popular news in other countries, I’m sure you can tell if a site is fake or not.

I chose this site to give an example. http://drudgereport.com

As soon as you click on the link you see a very unprofessional picture.

The site is called “drudge report” and drudge means dull work.. That should be the first thing that makes you stop reading whatever else is on that site.
However there are a lot more reliable sites you can always go to for real news like msnbc, fox, or cnn.

  1. Did you know that this site's name is actually derived not by that other definition of the word that you use here, but it's the last name of the site creator, Matt Drudge? I don't see on my iPad the picture you post here. What exactly is it, and what's wrong with it? And even more cable-based news sources can fall into the fake news pit, dig more deeply and keep going here.

  2. I have no idea what weird level of the internet that the dredgereport website you highlighted occupies, but it certainly is the epitome of “unprofessional.” How in the world did you stumble across this gem? Is there a depot of insane writing that is lurking in the shadows of the internet?

While I agree with the suggestions of how to test the validity of news sites that you have shared with our class, I would like to see more information added to the content of your post. Do you have research to back up your claim that “people in America don’t really know what is popular news in other countries,” or maybe more information of the effects that fake news has on an international level – maybe a country or nation that has been negatively affected by ill-informed masses taking in information at face value?

Also – are websites like the drudgereport taken seriously by the bulk of its internet traffic? Because I honestly thought that I would be briefed on the “fact” that former President Barak Obama is actual an alien monkey from Tatooine two seconds after I clicked on your hyperlink.

Can you highlight why it is important for people, not just Americans, to find their news from multiple, reliable sources instead of relying on websites that promote propaganda and misinformed claims? Or maybe connect other websites like the dredgereport and show your readers why it is important that they learn how to pick apart all news sources.
